The bezel insert is missing. At a minimum a complete overhaul is required. This vintage 1975 Bulova Caravelle diver has under the heavily scratched/gouged crystal a lovely black “T” signed and the original lume, which remains fully intact and emits a faint, short-lived glow after being exposed to bright light, has aged to a perfectly matching warm buttermilk hue. The vibrant orange seconds hand, which shows no chipping or signs of paint loss, adds oodles of character. Although the bezel rotates bidirectionally with an appropriate amount of tension the bezel insert is missing. The all stainless steel case shows honest wear with minor signs of oxidation. The outer edge of the case back is stamped “CARAVELLE SHOCK RESISTANT WATER-RESISTANT TO 666 FEET STAINLESS STEEL ANTI MAGNETIC” with “N5″ stamped along the inner edge. The inside of the case back is stamped “3286-DP” followed by “CARAVELLE DIV, “B. ” and “TAIWAN The crystal shows heavy scratching/gouging. The 17 jewels unadjusted “N5″ and “IIDP” stamped manual wind movement runs strong, albeit slow. After recently winding the signed, non-screwdown crown 36 full revolutions the movement lost about 50 minutes by the end of its approximate 41 hour power reserve period. The time sets smoothly and the crown winds buttery smooth. At a minimum a. Complete overhaul is required. This watch measures approximately 37 mm excluding the crown, approximately 40 mm including the crown and approximately 19 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 8 mm. Including the crystal thickness measures approximately 10 mm. The lug to lug distance measures approximately 44 mm. As such there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch. Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old-school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time. For this watch that time is now. Any servicing costs going forward are your responsibility.
