FOR PARTS/REPAIR – Although the automatic movement runs strong it loses about 3 minutes by the end of its approximate 40 hour power reserve period. Additionally, although both the day and date wheels roll over the day wheel does not align correctly. This can be clearly seen in pictures 1 through 8. And while the replacement crown winds smoothly it turns very stiffly when setting the date and time. For these reasons a complete overhaul is required. This seldom seen vintage 1977 Bulova, which came from the estate of its original owner, is in my humble opinion an example of a watch that looks markedly better in person. The “T SWISS T” signed dial, which I believe began life blue, has begun to turn brown, likely due to a defect with the paint. It is in lovely but not perfect condition as it shows wear. The lume, which no longer glows after being exposed to bright light, has aged gracefully. The paint on the hands shows chipping. The all stainless steel case shows wear with signs of oxidation. The outer edge of the case back is stamped “BULOVA STAINLESS STEEL WATER RESISTANT” with “N7″ and “T334645″ stamped in the center. The crystal shows scratching and dust/debris on its underbelly. While I normally show pictures of the movements of watches I put up for sale the case back on this watch is torqued too tight for me to remove. Although the automatic movement with semi-quickset date function runs strong, albeit slow, and both the day and date wheels roll over automatically on their own, the day wheel does not align correctly. The semi-quickset date function works by manually rolling over a new date and then moving the hour hand repeatedly between the 21 and 24 hour marks until the desired date has been reached. And while the replacement, non-screwdown crown winds smoothly it turns very stiffly when setting the date and time. After winding the crown 39 full revolutions the movement lost about 3 minutes by the end of its approximate 40 hour power reserve period. Given the issues mentioned and considering the movement’s unknown service history a complete overhaul is required. This watch measures approximately 35 mm excluding the crown, approximately 37 mm including the crown and approximately 19 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the mid-case, is approximately 8 mm. Including the crystal thickness measures approximately 10.5 mm. A complete overhaul is required. As such there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch. Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time. For this watch that time is now. Any servicing costs going forward are your responsibility. And please study the 13 high magnification pictures carefully, which were taken in natural light and from various angles, as they are part of the description and serve as an accurate representation of the condition of this watch.
