In General mechanical and vintage watches need maintenance and servicing, buyers should expect to have to bring these watches into a watchmaker the same as changing the oil in your car to keep it running although not as often as a car. Mechanical watches are prone to damage if you hit them to hard, drop them, shake them to hard or exert any excessive force on them these have fine moving parts that are often moving at a high speed actions such as using a mechanical watch when hammering things or punching things.. These are examples only and. How do vintage watches keep time? Vintage mechanical watches do not keep exact time like its quartz counterparts, expect that watches that we list as working and keeping time unless otherwise specified run +/. 1-3 mins a day, we consider this to be acceptable for most vintage watches. Note: we do not time our watches to seconds lost or gained in a day, if you need something that accurate a quartz watch is more for you. If the watch in the listing says its tested then I have manually wound the watch and watched it for at least 12 hours. I do not have any sort of automatic watch winder to test automatic functions, generally unless stated I have only done a manual wind test. If it is an automatic I will generally shake the watch until it starts ticking and then watch it for an hour. After that I will do the manual wind test as per above unless otherwise specified. Vintage watches and mechanical watches need to be services often by a certified watchmaker to keep them running well, similar to your car and oil changes. Unless specified in the listing watches are not serviced and will need to go to a watchmaker for a checkup and service to be good time keepers and continue running smoothly.
