This vintage early Zodiac Sea Wolf has an originally glossy black dial that likely encountered some moisture ingress at some point. In my humble opinion its reddish brown color looks great in person but it is the result of damage. The lume on the hands is missing and what remains of the lume on the dial no longer glows after being exposed to bright light. The all stainless steel case shows decent wear with no visible signs of oxidation. The outside of the case back is stamped “ZODIAC SEAWOLF WATER-TESTED 20 ATM ESPECIALLY” and between the lugs at 6 o’clock are the stamped numbers 1258385. The crystal shows scratching and debris/staining on its underbelly. The case back on Sea Wolf’s are notoriously difficult to remove and should be done by a skilled watchmaker familiar with how to do so in order to avoid causing damage. However, I have no reason to think that the movement is missing given the weight of this watch and how it feels when being shook. The signed crown cannot be pulled out but it can be wound (although it doesn’t engage the movement – no friction). Given this and considering that the movement does not run a complete restoration/overhaul is required. This watch measures approximately 35 mm excluding the crown, approximately 38 mm including the crown and approximately 18 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the mid-case is approximately 6 mm. Including the crystal case thickness measures approximately 10 mm. Given that this watch does not run a complete restoration/overhaul is required. As such there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch. Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old-school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time. For this watch that time is now. Any servicing costs going forward are your responsibility.
