This is a fun watch in running condition. The caseback is incorrect, although funnily enough it just has the last two digits of the model number switched (its an 8002, not an 8020). There are minor scratches on the crystal, and the dial is in fair shape overall, with nice crisp text. There is mild tarnishing to the SEIKO logo. I initially thought the day/date window surround was tarnished, but actually its supposed to be blackan unusual look and very striking. There is, however, very significant pitting to the subregister. The case is unpolished with a bunch of dings; the unique original brushing is still very clearly visible. The vivid tomato-red sweep seems to be a variant (yellow sweep hands were more common) but correct. The subregister hand is aftermarket and incorrect (it should be teardrop-shaped) but the color is matched to the sweep. Reset is consistent but off, and when not adequately wound the chrono hangs at 58this is a common issue with the 6139 movement but in this case seems fine once it has been worn for a bit. Somebody has also stolen the spring from the start-stop pusher, which is luckily an easy replacement. There is at least one more significant issue, which is that the day/date quickset isnt working properly. When the movement is cased, theres no room to push in the stem at all, suggesting a replacement stem that was cut too short. This is supported by the fact that the date turns over nicely when the watch is out of the case. However, the day is still sluggish and inconsistent, so I think something is not right with the keyless works. The hands do seem to set just fine. The movement is quite clean, with a fair amount of grime and very minimal rust in just a couple of spots but no other signs of water intrusion and no significant pitting of the winding weight. Oddly, someone has stolen one of the screws from the balance cock, as you can see in the last picture. Ivedescribed the watch to the best of my ability and tried to disclose any issues, and I will happily answer any questions and send further photos on request. Please assume that it will need at least a full servicing to run perfectly. The item “Vintage Seiko 6139-8002 Wristwatch for Parts or Repair, August 1974″ is in sale since Sunday, July 19, 2020.
