FOR PARTS/REPAIR – The ETA 2773 automatic movement does not want to run. After winding the crown 39 full revolutions the seconds hand wouldn’t run. Nor would it run after gently shaking and then spinning the watch face down on a soft, flat surface. However, oddly enough more than 2 hours later the seconds hand began to move, unprovoked, and the movement kept accurate time and the date wheel rolled over without issue over the ensuing 43 hours. But when I tried to get the movement to run again it wouldn’t. The rubber case back gasket is not correctly sized and needs to be replaced. Given that the movement doesn’t want to run and considering that the only visible watchmaker service marking appears to date to 2004 a complete overhaul is required. This seldom seen vintage 1970’s Tourist diver has a silvery champagne “SWISS MADE” signed dial that is in lovely but not perfect condition as it shows wear. The lume, which emits a quick burst glow after being exposed to bright light, has aged subtly. As clearly seen in the pictures the orange seconds hand shows chipping and wear. The blue fat font bezel, which shows wear and rotates smoothly bidirectionally, presents nicely. The all stainless steel case shows honest wear with no visible signs of oxidation. The outside of the case back is stamped FULL STAINLESS STEEL WATERPROOF 20 ATM INCABLOC ANTIMAGNETIC AUTOMATIC SWISS MADE. The crystal needs to be replaced. The 25 jewels Swiss ETA 2773 automatic movement with semi-quickset date function does not want to run. The quickset date function works flawlessly by manually rolling over a new date and then moving the hour hand repeatedly between the 20.5 and 24 hour marks until the desired date has been reached. The approximate 5 mm screwdown crown unscrews and screws back down perfectly as it should and winds with an appropriate amount of tension. This watch measures approximately 36 mm excluding the crown, approximately 41 mm including the crown and approximately 18 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 9.5 mm. Including the crystal thickness measures approximately 11.5 mm. A complete overhaul is required. As such there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch. Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time. For this watch that time is now. Any servicing costs going forward are your responsibility. And please study the 24 high magnification pictures carefully as they are part of the description and serve as an accurate representation of the condition of this watch.
