This seldom seen vintage 1960’s La Cloche has a silver “T SWISS MADE T” signed dial that is in lovely but not perfect condition as it shows age-related wear and discoloration. The lume, which no longer glows after being exposed to bright light, has aged gracefully. The beautifully cut all stainless steel case shows honest wear with minor signs of oxidation. The outer edge of the case back is stamped “WATERPROOF ANTIMAGNETIC INCABLOC STAINLESS STEEL SWISS MADE 3057592″ with S. M. B. Engraved in the center. This engraving represented the “new” 121st Engineer Battalion that was activated in 1948 in the Maryland National Guard. This battalion played a pivotal role in assisting local authorities with crowd control efforts during the race riots that took place in Baltimore and Cambridge in the 1960’s. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the mid-case, is approximately 6 mm. Including the crystal thickness measures approximately 9 mm. Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time. For this watch that time is now.
