This watch runs very inconsistentlyitll run for up to a minute at times, but with a couple of issues: first of all, it seems to lack the power to turn over the minute counter, with the result that the sweep stops at 58 seconds (Im guessing that thats the issue based on past reading, though other common causes would include the sweep physically catching on somethingunlikely since it resets perfectly every timeor simply the usual age-associated crud). If you watch closely, when it stops, the sweep actually jumps a tiny bit back in the wrong direction before it comes to a stop, like a car that dies going up a hill and rolls back down. Thats where the second issue comes up. The watch will only run with the chrono going. Stop it, and the movement stops entirely and wont restart without a bit of a tap (and only once the chrono has been restarted). In what may be a related issueand one Ive never seen beforeboth of the dial feet actually seem to be sticking out through the dial. Its actually not particularly distracting to my eye, but unfortunately mars another wise really nice-looking dial with minimal fading. I actually don’t think this has anything to do with the chrono problems, but I honestly don’t know for sure. Setting is stiff but works properly, as do the day and date quickset. The day wheel is English/Spanish. Cosmetically, the watch has significant signs of wear but has never been polished. There are tool marks on the caseback. The hands appear original, with some chips to the minute hand but rather nice-looking chrono hands. Crown and pushers are original. With the caseback off, theres some pitting external to the threads, but I dont see any obvious signs of water entry into the movementwhich is admittedly so dirty that its hard to tell. The original crystal was in awful shape; I replaced it with a nice aftermarket one. Crystal and caseback gaskets are also new. I didnt muck around with the pusher or crown gaskets as I assume those will be going through a thorough cleaning anyway. Happy to include the original crystal in the sale upon request, although I promise its really a hot mess. Ive described the watch to the best of my ability and tried to disclose any issues, and I will happily answer any questions and send further photos on request. Please assume that it will need at least a full servicing to run perfectly. The item “Seiko 6139-7101 Helmet for Parts or Repair, December 1977″ is in sale since Monday, April 13, 2020.
