Up for sale is a vintage Seiko 7548-700H dive or diving watch, for parts or repair. The watch does set properly, but the day and date don’t work as they should (including via the quickset), and it did nothing with a new battery. The bezel turns as it should with distinct clicks, and the crown screws down as it should with plenty of turns, but I have no idea what’s required to get it running. The serial number dates this to April of 1978. As a fun little bonus, it has a really low serial number, indicating it was only the 4th watch of this model made that month. As I understand it, the 7548 was the first real quartz diver’s watch made by Seiko. It used a case that was identical (or close to it) to the second generation of 6309 diver (7290), which was slimmed-down from the earlier “cushion” cased models (7040/9). They are very popular as collectors items now, 30+ years after they were made, and come in several varieties (including with pepsi bezels, orange dials, and even an extremely rare green dial). You can find out much more by searching online. This one is the orange dial with silver accents, which is a little harder to find than the other kind with gold accents. It comes on its original XGL-831 strap, which are very hard to find (and also came on the 6309 and 6306 dive watches). I’ve seen these sell for pretty crazy prices on their own. It is stiff and shows wear, but is definitely still usable. Cosmetically, the watch itself is in really nice cosmetic condition overall. The hands and dial look great, though the dial lume is a slightly grayer shade than the hand lume. I have no doubt that’s just how it aged, though – I’ve seen quite a few of the 7548s with this combo. The crystal has a few very small/shallow scratches but is still in great shape overall. The day and date wheel that are showing look fine, but the date does look like it has some grunge on it that probably relates to why they’re not working. The case is also in very nice shape overall without much wear and with its original brushed finish still clearly visible. The bezel insert looks close to perfect, and it turns well with clicks. I’m an amateur collector of vintage Japanese watches, mostly Seiko and Citizen. Please examine all photos as they are part of my description.
