FOR PARTS/REPAIR – The manual wind movement with semi-quickset date function will only run briefly when the time is being set as the crown cannot be wound (likely indicating that the mainspring needs to be replaced). Given that the movement does not run as it should and considering that it has likely never been serviced a complete overhaul is required. This seldom seen vintage 1969 Timex diver, which came from the estate of its original owner, has a glossy black “2157 2569″ signed dial that is in lovely but not perfect condition as it shows light wear and some dust/debris lying on its surface. Majority of the imperfections seen, including the black specs, are on the underbelly of the crystal. The lume, which remains fully intact and emits a quick burst glow after being exposed to bright light, has aged gracefully. The black countdown bezel, which shows wear and rotates stiffly bidirectionally, retains most of its original numbers, hash marks and inverted triangle paint. In my humble opinion the bezel’s color combination complements the dial and patina beautifully. The chrome-plated case shows honest wear with signs of brassing/oxidation. The crystal shows scratching. While I normally show pictures of the movements of watches I put up for sale I’m unable to remove this case back as I don’t have a press to put it back on. Based on the dial stampings the movement should be an M25 manual wind movement with semi-quickset date function which only runs briefly when the time is being set as the crown cannot be wound (likely indicating that the mainspring needs to be replaced). The semi-quickset date function works flawlessly by manually rolling over a new date and then moving the hour hand repeatedly between the 21.5 and 1.5 hour marks until the desired date has been reached. The non-screwdown crown does not wind. This watch measures approximately 36 mm excluding the crown, approximately 39 mm including the crown and approximately 19 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 7.5 mm. Including the crystal thickness measures approximately 9.5 mm. A complete overhaul is required. As such there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch. Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old-school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time. For this watch that time is now. Any servicing costs going forward are your responsibility. FOR PARTS/REPAIR – The AS 1701 automatic movement does not run. The roulette date wheel rolls over as it should, the time can be set without issue and the non-screwdown crown winds smoothly. The bezel rotates too freely. At a minimum a complete overhaul is required. This seldom seen vintage 1960’s Nastrix, who was an American importer of French and Swiss watches and related parts during this time, has under the damaged crystal a lovely but not perfect glossy black dial as it shows wear. The original lume on the dial and hands, which remains fully intact and emits a quick burst glow after being exposed to bright light, has aged gracefully. The black countdown bezel, which shows wear and rotates bidirectionally too freely, presents nicely with the aged lume dot complementing the dial and patina beautifully. The all stainless steel case shows honest wear with visibly insignificant signs of oxidation. The outer edge of the case back is stamped “ANTIMAGNETIC STAINLESS STEEL CASE BASE METAL INDICATOR SHOCKRESISTANT” with “TESTED TO A DEPTH OF 600 FEET 100% WATERPROOF AND CONDENSATION PROOF” stamped along the inner edge and “SWISS MADE” and “TK” stamped in the center. The inside of the case back is stamped T. Co” followed by “SWISS CASE. The crystal should be replaced as it shows scratching and difficult to see micro-fractures as well as significant dust/debris on its underbelly. The 17 jewels unadjusted France NASTRIX CORP. Stamped AS 1701 automatic movement with semi-quickset date function does not run. The semi-quickset date function works flawlessly by manually rolling over a new date and then moving the hour hand repeatedly between the 20 and 24 hour marks until the desired date has been reached. The time can be set without issue and the non-screwdown crown winds smoothly. This watch measures approximately 37 mm excluding the crown, approximately 40.5 mm including the crown and approximately 19 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 9 mm. Including the crystal thickness measures approximately 10 mm. The lug to lug distance measures approximately 48 mm. As such there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch. Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old-school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time. For this watch that time is now. Although the crown can be wound the day, date and time cannot be set as the crown won’t fully pull out. And while the seconds hand will move it only does so for several seconds at a time. Given this and considering the movement’s unknown service history a complete overhaul is required. This seldom seen vintage 1970’s Helbros day-date diver has a “GERMANY” signed dial that has aged naturally and uniquely over time to a bluish tan hue. In my humble opinion it has oodles of character and presents markedly better in person. The original lume on the dial and hands, which remains fully intact and emits a quick-burst glow after being exposed to bright light, has aged gracefully. The bezel, which rotates a bit stiffly bidirectionally, shows considerable wear. The all stainless steel lugholes case, which appears to have retained its original finish, shows honest wear with insignificant signs of oxidation. The outside of the case back is stamped ALL STAINLESS STEEL WEST GERMANY. The crystal needs to be replaced. While I normally show movement pics of the watches that I put up for sale the case back on this one is torqued to what feels like factory specs and is on too tight for me to remove. Based on another identical reference that I’ve had I believe the movement is likely a 17 jewels PUW 1564 automatic with quickset date function. By winding the sharply threaded non-screwdown crown and then gently shaking and or spinning the watch face down on a soft, flat surface the seconds hand will move inconsistently and for only several seconds at a time. And since the crown won’t fully pull out the day, date and time cannot be set. Nor can the crown be pushed in to test the quickset date function. Given these issues and considering the movement’s unknown service history a complete overhaul is required. This watch measures approximately 38 mm excluding the crown, approximately 41 mm including the crown and approximately 19 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 9 mm. Including the crystal thickness measures approximately 10.5 mm. Given that the day, date and time cannot be set, that the movement does not stay running for more than a few seconds at a time and considering that it has likely never been serviced a complete overhaul is required. As such there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch. Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old-school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time. For this watch that time is now.
