FOR PARTS/REPAIR – Although the manual wind movement will sometimes run consistently other times it’ll stop sporadically. Additionally, after winding the crown the watch needs to be gently spun face down on a soft, flat surface in order to jump-start the seconds hand. Lastly, the case shows pitting. Given that the movement doesn’t run as it should and considering its unknown service history a complete overhaul is required. This seldom seen vintage 1960’s Wittnauer Geneve 4000 diver has a near pristine matte black “T SWISS T” signed dial (majority of the imperfections seen are on the crystal) and the original lume, which remains fully intact and no longer glows after being exposed to bright light, has aged gracefully to a perfectly matching toasted orange hue. The stainless steel bezel, which has lost some of its black enamel paint and rotates smoothly bidirectionally, presents nicely with the lume pip complementing the dial and patina beautifully. The all stainless steel case shows significant wear and pitting. The outside of the case back is personalized. The inside of the case back is stamped “WITTNAUER WATCH CO INC” followed by “STAINLESS STEEL” and C 11 KS 4000. The crystal needs to be replaced. The 17 jewels unadjusted Swiss WITTNAUER WATCH CO. Stamped C11KS manual wind movement with semi-quickset date function sometimes runs consistently while at others times it’ll stop sporadically. At a minimum a complete overhaul is required. This vintage 1970’s Paul Raynard has a glossy black “T SWISS MADE T” signed dial that is in lovely but not perfect condition as it shows light wear. The lume, which remains fully intact and emits a quick burst glow after being exposed to bright light, has aged to a perfectly matching toasted orange hue. The black plastic bezel, which does not rotate, shows significant wear and paint loss. The chrome-plated case shows honest wear, brassing and oxidation. The outer edge of the case back is stamped WATERPROOF TESTED TO 600 FEET SHOCKPROOF ANTIMAGNETIC. STAINLESS STEEL BACK SWISS MADE. The crystal needs to be replaced. While I normally show pictures of the movements of watches I put up for sale the case back on this watch is torqued too tight for me to remove. Although the date and time can be set without issue the manual wind movement with semi-quickset date function does not run as the non-screwdown crown cannot be wound, likely suggesting that the mainspring needs to be replaced. And while the hack wire is intact, which can be most clearly seen in pictures 14 and 15, the hack feature does not work. Given these issues a complete overhaul is long overdue and required. This seldom seen vintage 1960’s Glycine Combat has a matte black “T SWISS MADE T” signed dial that is in lovely but not perfect condition as it shows difficult to see wear. The original lume, which no longer glows after being exposed to bright light, has aged gracefully to an orange hue. Although in person it’s not visually perceptible under high magnification the minute, hour and seconds hands show cracking. The all stainless steel case with lugholes on the left side only (correct for this reference) shows honest wear with no signs of oxidation. The outer edge of the case back is faintly stamped “645” followed by the serial number “966593” which corresponds to 1968. The crystal needs to be replaced. While I normally show pictures of the movements of watches I put up for sale I don’t feel comfortable removing the case back on this one. The semi-quickset date function works flawlessly by manually rolling over a new date and then moving the hour hand repeatedly between the 20.5 and 24 hour marks. After recently winding the cross-hatched, non-screwdown crown 39 full revolutions the movement had a relatively weak approximate 7 hour power reserve period. The crown winds with significant tension. Given the issues mentioned a complete overhaul is long overdue and required. This watch measures approximately 34 mm excluding the crown, approximately 37.5 mm including the crown and approximately 18 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the fixed bezel, is approximately 6.5 mm. Including the crystal thickness measures approximately 9.5 mm. The black bezel, which rotates with an appropriate amount of tension, shows wear. The all stainless steel case is in decent condition showing some dings with no signs of oxidation. The outer edge of the case back is stamped 20 ATMOSPHERES 100% ETANCHE A. The crystal shows scratching. A skilled watchmaker will have no problem doing so. However, the crown/stem pull out. While it can be pushed back in and wound without issue, the date and time cannot be set. FOR REPAIR – until recently the manual wind movement had run strong and kept accurate time without issue. However, after most recently winding the brassed crown to fully wound status the mainspring would not unwind thus the movement wouldn’t run. This likely indicates that the mainspring needs to be replaced. After a day of remaining fully wound and not running the movement then began to run after the watch was moved in a variety of different positions. It remained running for the next 33 hours, losing several minutes with the date wheel rolling over automatically as it should. Given the movement’s inconsistency and considering its unknown service history a complete overhaul is needed. This seldom seen vintage Bercona Sport has a matte orange “T SWISS MADE T” signed. Dial that is in near pristine condition. The imperfections seen are primarily on the underbelly of the crystal. The lume, which remains fully intact and emits a quick-burst glow after being exposed to bright light, has aged gracefully to a perfectly matching toasted buttermilk hue. In my humble opinion the patina is the highlight of this watch as it presents beautifully. The black bezel, which rotates smoothly bidirectionally, looks good. The chrome-plated case shows moderate wear with no visible signs of brassing. The outer edge of the case back is stamped “STAINLESS STEEL BACK BASE METAL BEZEL AND INDICATOR SWISS MADE” with “TESTED TO 5 ATM” followed by “551” stamped in the center. He crystal, which has significant dust/debris on its underbelly, should be replaced as there is a small, difficult to see crack near the 5 o’clock marker. While I normally show pictures of the movements of watches that I put up for sale I don’t have a press tool to press the case back on so no movement pictures were taken. FOR PARTS/REPAIR – the movement does not run and shows signs of previous moisture ingress, the original signed crown/stem separates which does not allow the date/time to be set nor does it wind and the date wheel needs to be replaced as it is damaged, presumably from moisture over time. Given this and considering that the movement shows no clear signs of ever having been serviced (there are no watchmaker service markings on the inside of the case back or on the movement) a complete overhaul/restoration is required. This vintage Archimedes diver is an example of a watch that in my humble opinion the pictures don’t nearly do it the justice it deserves. In person it presents beautifully. The glossy black “SWISS MADE” signed dial shows age-related wear and signs of moisture ingress while the original tritium, which remains fully intact and emits a quick-burst glow after being exposed to bright light, has aged naturally to a truly special orange hue. The all stainless steel bezel, which rotates bidirectionally with an appropriate amount of tension, looks great with the lume pip complementing the dial and patina nicely. The all stainless steel case is in wonderful condition showing very minor wear with no signs of oxidation. The outer edge of the case back is stamped “100% WATERPROOF ANTIMAGNETIC INCABLOC AUTOMATIC SWISS MADE” with “ALL STAINLESS STEEL UNBREAKABLE MAINSPRING 25 JEWELS” stamped along the inner edge and “MILUS” followed by “ARCHIMEDES, “”666 FT, “”20 ATMOSPHERES” and “30.105” stamped in the center. The crystal, which has significant dust/debris lying on its underbelly, can likely be salvaged. The 25 jewels Swiss “MILUS” stamped ETA 2472 shows clear signs of having been exposed to water at some point as there is significant rust/oxidation. Consequently it does not run, the original signed crown/stem separates and the date wheel is damaged. Additional pictures of the movement can be happily provided upon request.
