The seconds hand will also run when the time is being set and will continue to run briefly thereafter. The quickset date feature works flawlessly by pressing the top button. The bottom crown controls the “perpetual calendar” although this calendar is technically not perpetual as it only goes to the year 2015. Given that the movement does not run as it should and considering its unknown service history a complete overhaul is required. This vintage 1970’s first generation Wittnauer “2000” has a pristine bluish purple “JAPAN Y6404-013″ stamped dial and the lume on the dial and hands, which remains fully intact and emits a quick burst glow after being exposed to bright light, has aged gracefully to a perfectly matching buttermilk hue. The all stainless steel case case shows honest wear with insignificant signs of oxidation. The outer edge of the case back is stamped “STAINLESS STEEL PATENT PENDING” with “W” followed by “WITTNAUER” and “2000” stamped in the center. The crystal should be replaced. While I normally show pictures of the movements of watches I put up for sale the case back is torqued too tight for me to remove. The automatic movement with quickset date function will only run for a few seconds at a time after the watch has been vigorously shaken. The non-screwdown top crown is not intended to be wound as the movement is self-winding. This watch measures approximately 42 mm excluding the crown, approximately 45 mm including the crown and approximately 18.75 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the fixed bezel, is approximately 8 mm. Including the crystal thickness measures approximately 10 mm. This watch comes on its original “W, “”STAINLESS STEEL” and “MADE IN JAPAN” stamped bracelet showing moderate stretch. Set on the loosest clasp setting it fits my approximate 6.5 inch wrist perfectly. It likely won’t fit a greater than 6.5 inch wrist. This seldom seen vintage 1971 Caravelle, which came from the estate of its original owner, has a pristine blue “T SWISS T” signed dial and the original lume, which remains fully intact and no longer glows after being exposed to bright light, has aged gracefully to a toasted buttermilk hue. The vibrant orange seconds hand shows no paint loss. The fixed, fluted bezel presents nicely. The all stainless steel case shows honest wear with insignificant signs of oxidation. The outer edge of the case back is stamped “CARAVELLE – SHOCK RESISTANT – STAINLESS STEEL – AUTOMATIC – ANTI MAGNETIC – WATER RESISTANT” with “N1″ stamped along the inner edge. The inside of the case back is stamped “MXF” followed by “824, “”CARAVELLE WATCH DIVISION, “”BULOVA WATCH Co” and SWISS. The crystal needs to be replaced. The 17 jewels unadjusted Swiss “CARAVELLE WATCH” and “N1″ stamped AS 1916 automatic movement with semi-quickset date function does not run. FOR PARTS/REPAIR – although the automatic movement keeps accurate time over an approximate 38 hour power reserve period the date wheel is finicky as it will manually roll over but gets hung up when trying to do so automatically on its own. Given this and considering the movement’s unknown service history a complete overhaul is required. This seldom seen vintage 1970’s Avia Marino 20 ATM diver has a blue “T SWISS MADE T” signed dial that is in lovely but not perfect condition as it shows age-related wear. When natural light hits the dial at certain angles, as seen in several of the pictures, the navy blue morphs into a lighter blue hue. The lume, which remains fully intact and emits a quick burst glow on only the dial after being exposed to bright light, has aged gracefully. Bezel, which shows wear and rotates bidirectionally with an appropriate amount of tension. The all stainless steel. Case shows honest wear with no visible signs of oxidation. The outer edge of the case back is stamped “STAINLESS STEEL – WATERPROOF 20 ATU – ANTIMAGNETIC – INCABLOC – AUTOMATIC” with “15033” stamped along the inner edge. The crystal shows scratching. While I normally shows pictures of the movements of watches I put up for sale I’m unable to open the case back on this watch. The 17 jewels automatic movement with semi-quickset date function runs strong and keeps accurate time. However, while the date wheel will manually roll over it gets hung up when trying to do so automatically on its own. When this happens I’ll manually move the hour hand several full revolutions (tends to take three) to get the date wheel to roll over and align properly. When the date wheel finally rolls over it does so to the date that it should have been had it rolled over automatically on its own. This is illustrated in pictures 10 and 11, respectively. The semi-quickset date function works flawlessly by manually rolling over a new date and then moving the hour hand repeatedly between the 20.5 and 24 hour marks until the desired date has been reached. The movement tends to run for several seconds to several minutes at a time after the crown is wound and then spinning the watch face down on a flat surface, the movement does not run consistently for any extended period of time. The longest I’ve observed the movement running consistently was for nearly 10 minutes, during which it kept accurate time. Both the day and date wheels roll over as they should and the quickset date function works flawlessly. The crown turns a bit stiffly when setting the day, date and time. A complete overhaul is required. This vintage 1970’s Tempus has a pristine blue “T SWISS MADE T” signed dial and the lume, which remains fully intact and emits a quick burst glow after being exposed to bright light, has aged gracefully. The world time bezel, which shows wear and rotates smoothly bidirectionally, presents nicely. The chrome-plated case shows honest wear with minor brassing. The outside of the case back is stamped “SWISS MADE – SHOCKPROTECTED – AUTOMATIC – STAINLESS STEEL BACK” while the inside of the case back is stamped M. The crystal should be replaced. The 25 jewels Swiss “BREVETS” and MICHAEL Z. BERGER stamped Baumgartner 158 31/7 automatic movement with quickset date is clean and both the day and date wheels roll over as they should but does not run consistently for any extended period of time. Until recently the movement was keeping accurate time. While the seconds hand continues to run strong, albeit fast, the minute hand now has a tendency to start and stop, moving inconsistently on its own. Sometimes the watch runs as it should, although a bit fast, during a full power reserve cycle while other times the minute hand gets stuck repeatedly. When this happens I’ve noticed that after several minutes the minute hand tends to re-engage and start moving again, sometimes without further issue while other times the process repeats itself until the kink is worked out. Considering that this watch appears to be untouched and having never been serviced, a full overhaul is needed. This classy vintage Tressa diver appears to be untouched and has a pristine blue satin “T SWISS MADE T” signed dial that is in pristine condition, free of any visibly noticeable scratches, tool marks, chipping or defects. The original tritium on the dial and hands remains fully intact, matches perfectly and no longer glows after being exposed to bright light. The patina has aged beautifully to a deep golden brown sugar hue. In my humble opinion the dial and patina couldn’t be more pleasing. The silver and powder blue world time bezel, which rotates bidirectionally, looks great. The solid all stainless steel case shows age-related wear and some minor dings. The outer edge of the case back is stamped “SWISS MADE WATERPROOF INCABLOC STAINLESS STEEL UNBREAKABLE MAINSPRING” with “AUTOMATIC” stamped in the center. The crystal shows scratching. The 25 jewels (dial says 17 but movement is stamped 25) “SWISS” and “TRESSA” stamped Felsa 4462 automatic movement with quickset date function is in wonderful condition and until recently was keeping accurate time.
