While the movement runs strong it tends to run anywhere from 45 minutes to more than an hour slow at the end of its approximate 38 hour power reserve period. And while the date wheel rolls over the day wheel does not. Additionally, occasionally after winding the crown several full revolutions there will be a jolt in the movement with the seconds hand stopping. When this happens I’ve observed that if the crown is pulled out, the time reset, the crown pushed back in and then the crown given several additional slow winds, being careful to stop before jolting the movement again, the seconds hand will fire back up without issue. Finally, while the dial appears to be in pristine condition, over time some dust and debris has gotten between the crystal and crystal ring, settling on the underbelly of the crystal and the dial. Most notably being what appears to be a piece of filament lying between the 6 and 7 o’clock markers. A skilled watchmaker can quickly and easily remove this dust/debris during a service. Given the issues noted above a complete overhaul is needed. This classy vintage Sheffield day-date diver has a black concentric “T SWISS MADE A1″ signed dial that is in pristine condition, free of any visibly noticeable scratching, tool marks, chipping or defects. Please note that over time some dust and debris has gotten between the crystal and crystal ring, settling on the underbelly of the crystal and the dial. A skilled watchmaker can quickly and easily remove this. The original lume on the dial and hands, which is fully intact and matches perfectly, emits a faint, short-lived glow after being exposed to bright light. The bezel, which rotates bidirectionally, looks good. The chrome-plated case shows some wear, most notably a ding on the bottom of the left lug at 12 o’clock. The crystal shows scratching. While I normally show the movements of watches I sell, the case back on this one is torqued too tight for me to remove it. A skilled watchmaker will have no issues removing it. While the manual wind movement with quickset date function runs strong it does run slow. And while the date wheel rolls over and day wheel does not. The quickset date function works flawlessly by manually rolling over a new date and then moving the hour hand repeatedly between the 20.5 and 24 hour marks until the desired date has been reached. After recently winding the sharply threaded crown 15 full revolutions (multiple times over the course of a one week observation period) the movement ran anywhere from 45 minutes to more than an hour slow at the end of the approximate 38 hour power reserve period. Please note that occasionally after winding the crown, the movement will jolt and the seconds hand will stop. When this happens I’ve observed that if the crown is pulled out, the time reset, the crown pushed back in and then the crown given several additional slow winds, being careful to stop before jolting the movement again, the seconds hand fires back up without issue. The mainspring is likely long overdue to be replaced. Given that the movement runs slow and considering that the day wheel does not work and the mainspring issue, a complete overhaul is needed. This watch measures approximately 40 mm without the crown, approximately 43 mm including the crown and approximately 19 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 10 mm. Including the crystal case thickness measures approximately 11.5 mm. Considering that the movement runs slow, the day wheel does not roll over and the mainspring likely needs to be replaced given the occasional movement jolting, a complete overhaul is needed. As such there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch. Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old-school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time. For this watch that time is now. Any servicing costs going forward are your responsibility.
