Although the FHF ST 96-4 manual wind movement runs an approximate 33 hour power reserve period and the date wheel rolls over as it should the hour and minute hands don’t want to move on their own, suggesting that at a minimum the cannon pinion likely needs tightening. Additionally, after winding the crowns it’s necessary to gently spin the watch face down on a soft, flat surface in order to jump start the seconds hand. Given these issues and considering the movement’s unknown service history a complete overhaul is long overdue and required. This seldom seen vintage 1970’s Paul Peugeot Le Jour diver, which came from the estate of its original owner, has a pristine glossy black “T SWISS T” signed dial. Any imperfections seen are on the crystal, not the dial. The subtle pistachio hued lume emits a quick burst glow after being exposed to bright light. The black fat font bezel, which shows wear and rotates bidirectionally with an appropriate amount of tension, presents nicely. The chrome-plated case shows considerable wear and brassing. The outer edge of the case back is stamped “WATERPROOF – STAINLESS STEEL BACK – SHOCKRESISTANT” with “GUARANTEED 5 ATM TESTED – SWISS MADE” stamped along the inner edge. The inside of the case back is stamped LE JOUR TIME CO. ” followed by “SWISS MADE. The crystal should be replaced. The 17 jewels unadjusted Swiss LE JOUR TIME Co. However, the minute and hour hands don’t want to move on their own, suggesting that at a minimum the cannon pinion likely needs tightening. This seldom seen vintage 1960’s Paul Le Grande, which came from the estate of its original owner, has clearly lived a full life. The black dial is peeling around its edges and the original lume, which emits a quick burst glow after being exposed to bright light, has aged gracefully. The stainless steel bezel, which shows wear and rotates bidirectionally with an appropriate amount of tension, presents nicely. The all stainless steel case shows honest wear with no visible signs of oxidation. The outer edge of the case back is stamped “STAINLESS STEEL AUTOMATIC 100% WATERPROOF INCABLOC ANTIMAGNETIC SWISS MADE” with 600 Ft. ” followed by “DEEPDIVER, 18 ATM. ” The inside of the case back is stamped “ALSTATER WATCH Co” followed by “SWISS. The crystal needs be replaced. At a minimum a complete overhaul is required. This vintage 1970’s Paul Raynard has a glossy black “T SWISS MADE T” signed dial that is in lovely but not perfect condition as it shows light wear. The lume, which remains fully intact and emits a quick burst glow after being exposed to bright light, has aged to a perfectly matching toasted orange hue. The black plastic bezel, which does not rotate, shows significant wear and paint loss. The chrome-plated case shows honest wear, brassing and oxidation. The outer edge of the case back is stamped WATERPROOF TESTED TO 600 FEET SHOCKPROOF ANTIMAGNETIC. STAINLESS STEEL BACK SWISS MADE. The crystal needs to be replaced. While I normally show pictures of the movements of watches I put up for sale the case back on this watch is torqued too tight for me to remove. FOR PARTS/REPAIR – The movement loses a little more than 1.5 hours by the end of its approximate 31 hour power reserve period. Given this and considering that the movement shows no signs of ever having been serviced a complete overhaul is long overdue and required. This seldom seen vintage 1970’s Paul Peugeot diver has a glossy black dial that is in pristine condition, free of any visible scratching, tool marks or defects. The lume, which remains fully intact and emits a faint, short-lived glow after being exposed to bright light, has aged to a deep golden butterscotch on the dial while the hands have developed a slightly lighter patina. The metal hands show corrosion which in my humble opinion adds oodles of character. The black countdown bezel, which shows wear and rotates smoothly bidirectionally, presents nicely. Stainless steel case, which retains its original satin finish, shows minor wear with no visible signs of oxidation. The outer edge of the case back is stamped “SHOCKRESISTANT ANTIMAGNETIC ALL STAINLESS STEEL” with “TESTED TO A DEPTH OF 600 FEET 100% WATERPROOF AND CONDENSATION PROOF” stamped along the inner edge. The inside of the case back is stamped CONDE CO. ” followed by “CASE MADE IN HONGKONG. ” Additionally the case is stamped “HONGKONG between the lugs at 12 o’clock. The crystal shows scratching. The 17 jewels Standard Time (ST) 92 manual wind movement is clean. After recently winding the sharply threaded non-screwdown crown 15 full revolutions the movement ran a little more than 1.5 hours slow by the end of its approximate 31 hour power reserve period. The crown winds smoothly. Given that this watch is more than 45 years old, that the movement runs slow and considering that it shows no signs of ever having been serviced (there are no watchmaker service markings on the movement or on the inside of the case back) a complete overhaul is long overdue and required. This watch measures approximately 37.5 mm excluding the crown, approximately 40.5 mm including the crown and approximately 17.5 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 10 mm. Including the crystal case thickness measures approximately 12.5 mm. Given the vintage nature of this watch, that the movement runs slows and considering that it has likely never been serviced a complete overhaul is required. I’ve observed it running strong and keeping accurate time for more than a 24 hour period on multiple occasions but I’ve also observed it stop inconsistently at other times. A complete overhaul is needed. This vintage Paul Le Grande has a black “T SWISS MADE T” signed dial that has aged beautifully. In my humble opinion the pictures don’t do it justice as its unique starry night landscape is truly special. The lume, which remains fully intact and emits a quick burst glow after being exposed to bright light, has aged gracefully. The all stainless steel bezel, which rotates smoothly bidirectionally, looks good. The all stainless steel case is in excellent condition showing minor wear and oxidation. The outside of the case back is stamped “SHOCKPROTECTED WATERPRESSURE TESTED 666 FEET INCABLOC” with “ALL STAINLESS STEEL” followed by “SWISS MADE, “”679″ and 890760. The crystal shows light scratching and some dust/debris on its underbelly.
